Trump: Illegal Alien Amnesty a “Suicide Mission” for GOP

Whatever one thinks of Donald Trump, he certainly hit the nail on the head today.

Trump said the Republican party will hand Democrats 11 million votes if Congress grants citizenship to illegal aliens, likening the reform efforts to a “suicide mission.”

The fact is 11 million people will be voting Democratic. You can be out front. You can be the spearhead. You can do whatever you want to do, but everyone of those 11 million people will be voting Democratic. It is just the way it works,” Trump said to applause from the thousands gathered Friday for the American Conservative Union’s 40th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“You have to be very, very careful, because you could say that to a certain extent the odds aren’t looking so great for Republicans, that you are on a suicide mission,” he said. “You are just not going to get those votes.”

Electoral history as well as recent polling would seem to prove Trump correct.

Much has been made of the 75% Hispanic support enjoyed by Barack Obama in the recent election – support which the media and pro-amnesty groups repeatedly attributed – without evidence – to his support for illegal alien amnesty.

However, in 1986, Ronald Reagan signed the first major amnesty in U.S. history (which Reagan later regretted) – legalizing 3 million illegals. Yet just two years later, in 1988, his V.P. George H.W. Bush received only 30% of the Hispanic vote – just 7% better than Romney, who ran on opposing amnesty and embracing Arizona’s law and mandatory E-Verify. Even John McCain, who WROTE the 2006 McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill, got only 31% of Hispanics in 2012.

Embracing amnesty doesn’t help Republicans with Latinos because they really don’t care that much about it. According to a Fox Latino poll before the election, only 6% of Latinos said that immigration was the most important issue to their vote. A Latino Decisions (LD) election eve poll foound that only 31% of Latinos in the LD survey said they would be more likely to vote GOP, if the Republican party took a leadership role in immigration reform. 11% even said they would be LESS likely to back the GOP if they embraced amnesty – a clear pro-enforcement group that opposes illegal immigration.

Why? Because Hispanics support big government – large numbers use government programs. For example, U.S.-born Hispanic households in California use welfare programs at twice the rate of native-born non-Hispanic households. And among illegal aliens it is even more stark: nationally 57% of illegals receive at least one form of welfare program – which grows to a staggering 70% in a border state like Texas. Would they really support a party that wants to limit or reform welfare programs, if they gained the right to vote? It is sheer lunacy to believe this. And beyond craven electoral politics: it is morally wrong to reward lawbreakers at the expense of the hundreds of thousands who try and come to America the legal way.

Trump is right: amnesty would be suicide for the GOP. Will they learn the lesson before it’s too late?

If YOU stand with Gov. Brewer and Sheriff Joe and against illegal immigration and want to see the border secured, the rule of law upheld and amnesty for illegals stopped, then put your name where your heart is, and join the 170,000 who have signed the petition…
